Tom Megalis is a first generation Greek American artist and filmmaker. Both of his parents were born in Peloponnesus. His animation work has been seen on Nickelodeon (The Amanda Show and KABLAM!) on MTV, Comedy Central and Fox Animation. For Fox he produced 3 short pilot animations called Tom's Life that were all about growing up as a Greek American.
Yiayia Finds a Joint
His favorite animation of the three was the one where his Yiayia, while cleaning his room, found a marijuana joint under his space rocket. His mother and father convinced he was going to be an American drug junkie, called in the Greek priest Father Jimmy to bless him. Father Jimmy also suggested they put up a big cross, tricked out with multi lights, over his bed. He could barely sleep at night from the bright lights. It was like sleeping on the Vegas strip. His mother wouldn't turn off the Jesus light at night. She said it had to be on so "God could see him." Growing up Greek. Never a dull moment.
