Feast Day: August 15
⛪ The Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos (Θεοτόκου) and Ever-Virgin Mary (Assumption Day) is one of the Great Feasts of the Greek Orthodox Church and honors the repose (dormition) or "falling-asleep" of the Mother of Jesus Christ. This feast also honors the translation or assumption into heaven of the body and soul of the Theotokos, Mother of God.
Mary is believed to be a young Jewish teenager from Nazareth who married Joseph and later became the mother of Jesus. This feast day sets aside time to reflect on the meaning of her life, to celebrate the hope and promise of Mary's intercession with God, and to reflect on her role in salvation.
