Minneapolis Greek Festival Taste of Greece
This event will feature authentic Greek food, handmade desserts, live music and dancing, church tours, the Greek Boutique, Greek wine tastings, and a kid's area with inflatables. All proceeds will go to charitable organizations. Early Bird Specials on Friday until 4pm, and Sunday, September 13, from noon to 6 pm.
Additionally, three specific causes will be highlighted during the weekend. First, Friday night of the festival marks the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attack on 9/11. When World Trade Center Tower 2 collapsed, it destroyed St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was originally established in 1916. The rebuilding of St. Nicholas Church and National Shrine at Ground Zero is underway. Information, videos, and donation options will be available all weekend. (http://www.stnicholaswtc.org/home)
Also on Friday night is Chloe's Fight 5K Toga Run/Family Walk and Kid's Toga Race around Lake Calhoun. All proceeds benefit pediatric rare disease research and a brand new project at the University of Minnesota. Information and online registration at http://chloesfight.org/. Lastly, festival guests can bring 3 non-perishable food items for Joyce Food Shelf (http://www.joycefoodshelf.org/) and receive 2 free food tickets.
"Each year we are happy to open our Church doors to our friends and neighbors to share our Greek culture and support several worthy causes," said Fr. George Dokos, head priest of St. Mary's. "We welcome everyone to come and enjoy our traditional offerings, as well as several new experiences that we have planned," added Thomas Forchas, chairperson of this year's festival.
