Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos August 15

Feast Day: August 15

The Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos (Θεοτόκου) and Ever-Virgin Mary (Assumption Day) is one of the Great Feasts of the Greek Orthodox Church and honors the repose (dormition) or "falling-asleep" of the Mother of Jesus Christ. This feast also honors the translation or assumption into heaven of the body of the Theotokos.

The icon depicts the Theotokos on her deathbed with Christ, the Apostles, a few bishops, and some women around her.
